The seed for the Duchesse was planted many years ago when Stu Burger was a boy growing up in British Columbia, Canada. During high school he worked with a framing crew and learned the basics of building a home, from the footings and concrete foundation walls to the roof, soffits and facia trim. Later a neighbour, an electrician, needed an assistant and Stu acquired valuable experience in the trade of home electricity. |

Throughout the ensuing years Stu’s career path took various turns but home renovations and the trades always remained part of his life. In 1978 Stu became involved in a major renovation project in Quebec, Canada. An old Anglican church in Jonquière, Québec had been left totally gutted and required refurbishing. This project was a great outlet for his skills and creativity. It was vital to him that the project be completed without compromising the integrity of the original design. Interestingly, this church has since been named one of that region’s historic buildings. |

However, after many years of various home renovations and additions, Stu craved the opportunity to complete the building cycle. Magna Carta Homes is the result: Stu and Brenda have now overseen both the construction and finishing of a new home, foundation to finish. “The Duchesse” showcases their consuming desire to not only “do it right”, but to compliment form and function with esthetics: a home must both provide comfort and inspire the heart.
The Duchesse, by Magna Carta Homes, is in many ways the dream project of Stu and Brenda Burger, combining an abiding affection for French Architecture and an uncompromising passion for excellence and quality. Without a doubt, their dream project is someone’s dream home. |
